Meeting called to order 12:56 PM

Attendees:  Wayne, Arnie, Mike, Keith, Jack G., Dave F., Dave B., Carolyn W., Greg L., Will L.

Approved December 18, 2025 Board minutes

  1. Review of leagues 2026 season with league coordinators
    1. Monday Recreation League – Carolyn W.
      1. Overall, season went well, no major issues
      2. Through mutual agreement, Rick Swierad will be replacing Carolyn as Monday league coordinator next year (2027 season).

Board concurred.

  • Players and managers prefer teams of 12 players vs 13 as some teams had.Players per team were a result of how many players signed up to play in the league, but in any case, 12 is the preferred number of players.
  • Board approved a motion to continue using 44-375 rated balls in all leagues playing at GT Bray (Monday Rec, Tues Comp. and Thursday Comp.). Thurs Rec League at Palma Sola will continue using 52-300.
  • Board approved motion to continue allowing any rated players (1-6) to play in Monday Rec league.

Recap from December 18, 2025 Board Meeting:

  1. Motion was made for next season to make competitive leagues(Tuesday and Thursday) for 1-4 rated players only. Motion was made to ensure the competitive league maintains a high level of play and attract the better players.

Board concurred.

In summary for 2027:

  • Monday League – Players of all ratings 1-6
  • Tuesday League – Players rated 1-4
  • Thursday Competitive – Players rated 1-4
  • Thursday Recreational – Players rated 3-6
  1. Thursday Recreation League – Mike K.
    1. Overall, season went well, no major issues.
    2. John DiClemente is planning to return as coordinator next year (2027 season).
  2. Tuesday and Thursday Competitive League – Arnie W. and Greg G.
    1. Arnie and Greg announced they are swapping coordinator roles for the 2027season.  Arnie will take Thursday Comp and Greg will take Tuesday Comp. In doing so, Dave F. will manage Thursday’s Clancy’s team and Arnie will manage Tuesday’s Clancy’s team to avoid the conflict of having a person being a coordinator and manager in the same league.
    2. Tuesday league had just 4 teams this year, eliminating bye weeks for all teams. Many players preferred having no bye weeks.  Going forward, as long as there are enough players on sub lists, we will not try to force having 5 or 7 teams if registrations numbers don’t support them.
  • Greg expressed concerns about lack of commitment (missing games) on some players part, resulting in many substitutes being needed. It makes it difficult to manage and it’s disrespectful to teammates.
To help remedy this problem from past years, the 2026 registration form asked players to declare how many games (if more than a couple) they expect to miss due to other known commitments.
The board will emphasize to players that when they sign up for league play they are expected be available for most games.
  1. Graphics (Scoreboards, Team Roster Boards and Name tags) – Will L.
    1. Will addressed the issue of name tags not sticking well to magnets and showed his proposed solution which board agreed to.
    2. Will also presented planned labelling improvements to both the scoreboards and hanging improvements to team boards.
  2. New players – Wayne K
    1. BSS has had 16 new sign-ups since January 1, 2026 and there were another 8 in the month of December 2025.
    2. The board will contact all new sign-ups to welcome them aboard and communicate our rec season process (pick-up games on Mondays and Thursdays whenever league play is not in season).
  3. Rules – Dave F.
    1. Discussed the situation when a runner on 1st or 3rd decides to stand off of base for safety reasons. Nothing in the rules preventing the runner from starting to move to retag base prior to pitched ball making contact with bat, plate or ground.  However, by moving before contact, the spirit of the rule allowing the runner to stand off the bag (safety), is violated.  Rules Committee will address and report to board.
    2. For as long as an board members can remember, a batter has been called out when he/she carries a bat beyond 2/3rds of the way down the 1st base line. Our rules do not cover this situation and it’s always been assumed it was an ASA/USA rule.  Umpire Hank reviewed the ASA/USA rules and discovered that there is no such rule.
Rules committee will address and report to board.
    3. Greg L. proposed that we change the rule on a batted ball hitting the pitcher’s screen. Current Rule is:
“A batted ball hitting the screen for the first time in an at bat is counted as a dead ball.  The second time hitting the screen in the same at bat is a strike.  After two strikes,  hitting the screen is a dead ball, not an out.”
    4. Greg proposed any batted ball hitting the screen would be called a strike and is a dead ball.  In addition, a batter hitting the screen with two strikes would be called out.
Rules committee will address and report to board.
    5. Rules Committee will convene within the next 2 months.
  1. Financial Status – Jack G.
    1. BSS is in good financial standings
  2. Morning hotline message responsibilities
    1. April – Jack G.; May – Dave B.;  June – Dave F.;  July – Arnie W.;      August – Wayne K.;  September – Keith V.;  October – Mike K.
  3. Next Board Meeting – TBD
  4. Meeting Adjourned 2:45pm
