Board of Directors Meeting Minutes – August 7, 2024

Meeting called to order 12:11PM

2. Wayne and Dave F.– BSS Survey Feedback Summary Analysis
   • Explained analysis process of grouping and counting similar subject responses
   • Explained and discussed each subject area
   • Determined which subject areas are actionable versus those that we can’t do anything about.
   • Board will distribute the results and proposed actions via broadcast email
3. Board gave Rules committee direction to review “leaving base early” rule in response to many concerns raised by players ever since the rule was instituted for league play in January.
4. Wayne is communicating with Sarasota league about the possibility of scheduling some interleague games. Keith took an action to contact Sun City for possible games as well
5. Dave F. was given the action to discuss umpiring with Hank Arsenault focusing on Hank’s thoughts about paying umpires.
6. BSS General rules state “Bradenton Senior Softball (BSS) was created circa 1990 in Bradenton, Florida to provide recreational softball for those individuals who are 60 years of age (in the playing calendar) or older.” For example, this means that if a player turns 60 in December of 2026, he/she is eligible  to play in  league play beginning January 2026.  The Board agree to modify this rule to state “players are eligible to play beginning October 1^st of the year prior to the year he/she turns 60”.  In the example above, player is eligible to play beginning October 1, 2025.  Two benefits are:  1.)  The rating committee has a chance to observe the players in action before leagues draft in early December.  2.)    Players have a chance to become familiar with the league, league rules and players before being cast into league play.
7. Wayne mentioned Channel 7 WWSB will be at the field Monday morning, August 18^th for a segment on Bradenton Senior Softball.
8. Registration for 2026 League play will be Friday, October 24 to Monday, November 17, 2025.  League drafts will be December 1, 4, 8 and 11.
9. Jack reported that BSS finances are in good standing
10. Keith is looking into producing a semi-annual BSS Newsletter as a way to publicize and keep members informed.
